Bringing an ancient Algerian town to life halfway across the world was Pico’s task for the Algeria Pavilion. By referencing the architectural style of North Africa, a series of facades and virtual roofs was created on a terrace, onto which a six-minute movie ‘Walking in Kashi Ba’ was projected. The 1,000 sq. m. space also included an interactive learning area, which painted a portrait of people and places of this emerging country through interactive tables and screens showing images of Algerian cities, national parks and other cultural assets. This area was the largest of the pavilion, and included a permanent exhibition on ‘Ksours’: traditional rural North African settlements.
